Buying domain names at auctions requires lot of
experiences that must be put into considerations while searching through the
huge list of multiple expired domain names.
This article is recommended for investors who
are not really seasoned at buying domains at drop auctions around the webs. The
article does not have anything to do with how long you have being trading
domain names, but exclusively for good investments.
Having money is secondary, but you must first
acquire the technical know-how, before talking of money; if not, you are going
to waste your capital and that is why the experience is paramount and
prerequisite before wrongly investing your hard earned money.
1.
Having
said that, first and foremost, you need to study and be conversant on what makes up the premium domain names; this
you can acquire the knowledge through reading of many domain name dedicated
blogs; such are: this blog, DomainSherpa.com, GGRG.com, domaining.com,
thedomain.com, you can read my article here and external blog here for better understanding. etc.
2.
Join
forums, especially, namepros.com which is the largest domain name community for
free; though, there are paid membership packages there, which you can pay just token to be a full fledged member of the community. The adage says, problem sheared are problem half
solved. Getting there will afford you many opportunities like shearing of ideas
with others. The main purposes are to learn many things that are not very clear
to you.
3.
You
must be conversant at learning the skills on what makes premium names around
the blogs and forums which I recommended. You are free to ask series of questions
on what you wish to know, you can as well create threads, and if your thread
make sense to the community; they will surely respond and give you valuable
advice. There are unlimited opportunities which you can benefit there; in a
nutshell the members are very friendly.
4.
Having
acquired the much required knowledge that can lead you to success. The next
step is to visit any auctions; there are series of auction places, such as
expired domain name auctions or auctions where the investors like you are
willing to sell their properties. Be ready to spend money now for bidding on
what you considered to be premium names.
5.
Hence
you can demystify premium names; you can start
bidding on any name you consider being good, but if you are still in doubt of
your skill; you can bid on those that have gotten bidding.
6.
Please
avoid bidding war, as such could lead to over pricing that may delay your quick
sales; the rule says buy low and sell high.
7. You
must know what is trending, so that you don‘t buy what could tie down your
money unnecessarily, you need to buy what could improves your capital money.
8.
There
are sets of liquid domain names where you can invest your money and have good
turn over in good time intervals. Such domains are LL, LLL, LLLL, the better
they are, the faster you could sell them, especially, if they are pronounceable.
Another set of pattern are NN, NNN, NNNN, NNNNN and in some cases of good pattern
six NNNNNN are also considered liquid. For more on these sets of domain names, you
can look through the list at shortnames on what they looks like here.
9.
Do
not buy; I repeat do not bid on any name that does not go by your plan, if you
want to make money in domain business as an investor. You
must buy according to your plan; the main principle are that the shorter and
meaningful the better, the names.
10. Buying new domain name is another
scenario of domain investment, that also has its own rules and ideology that
leads to success. In a nutshell; you are to register the domains that have to
do with businesses, equipment, services, and medical verticals. You must
consider; if they are two-word that rhyme well with each other or one word – I
doubt getting such for new registration now; except at auctions. The gurus say
it takes average of two to five years to make good sales if you are investing
on new domains. This does not mean to say you cannot make any sales before
then.
11. Do not buy trademarked domain names; Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) can give you a lot of problems or at
least, loss of the money paid to acquire the domain name. When you infringed on
any trademark, the owner will in most cases serve you a warning letter and
request you to deliver the domain name to them for avoidance of trouble, you
may decide to transfer the domain name to them or otherwise you can decide to
consult a legal practitioner, if you are so sure of yourself. In case you want
to consult a legal adviser, you can visit esqwire.com for further advice.
12. The following are recommended drop
catching services where you can be rest assured of cashing domains of your
choice i.e dropcatch.com, Phinix.com, snapnames.com. Only name.com will collect
money in advanced, and in case they fail to catch the domain for you, your
money will be refunded. But at every other mentioned drop catching services; you
only need to backorder your target domains for free and submit your card,
though, they don’t charge your card until they caught your domain name for you.
Their rules will apply when you fail to make their payment as at when due.
